CREATING THE CORRECT TONE IN A POLISH TRANSLATION

For example, let's imagine that we have a customer who is very late paying his bill. We might like to give him a reminder such as:

"May we draw your attention to the fact that our Polish Translation Invoice no. xxx is now considerably overdue and we would appreciate settlement at your earliest convenience. We are sure that this is just an oversight, but please make final settlement of your account within the next 10 days to avoid any further action being necessary"

The tone of the letter is polite and respectful, but the undertone is clear - Pay up in 10 days or we will be taking you to court. However, we would not want to write a letter saying 'pay up or else!', because maybe he has just forgotten. He is a customer and we don't want to be rude or offensive. We may want to keep his business.

The problems occur when you hand over this type of letter to a translator and they fail to grasp the subtle undertone. Instead they simply translate it as 'pay up or else!'

You can imagine the result.

Your translator must comprehend what you want to say, and understand how you want to say it in Polish to avoid negative situations. Just translating a document or web page is not going to create the image you need. The words must communicate the whole essence of your original, not just understandable, but felt.
